Large and in charge, the Oniyuzu has a very distinct look to it. Also called Shishiyizu, shushing meaning lion. Although Shishiyuzu has the name Yuzu attached to it, it’s technically not a part of the Yuzu species. It has a yellow, bumpy peel surface and is much larger at around 500g to 1kg.
It is also called “Oniyuzu” and “Jakarta Yuzu.” Like other Yuzu, it is usually not consumed as is, but used in jam or mixed with sugar for deserts. They are harvested in November to December.
